How to Plan a Birthday Party for Kids - Girls Birthday Party in 5 Easy Steps

Planning kids birthday parties is stressful! There is so much to do, so many things to take care of from selecting a theme to picking cute birthday girl outfits. As a mom of two girls, I feel the pain of any parent who is in the middle of planning their child's birthday party! I know that as a parent, you always want the party to be perfect because you know that your child will remember it for the rest of her life. In the following paragraphs I will provide useful tips and step-by-step instructions on how to plan the best party for your kids. My goal is to make your job easier.

1. Select Girls Birthday Party Themes

One of the first things you should do is select a theme for your girls birthday party. The best place to start is her interests. What is your girl into these days? Does she have a favorite hobby or TV show? If your girl is old enough, you can ask her what theme she would prefer. If you are planning a surprise birthday party, then you can look for help from her friends.

Make sure to browse Pinterest for kids party ideas. You can do a specific search is you have already picked out your theme or you can search for something like "girls birthday paty" or "kids birthday party." You will be surprised by how many great ideas you will find! Not only Pinterest is a great place to look for a fun and original themes, you can also get ideas for decorations, fun crafts and games, birthday outfits for girls and more.

10 Popular Birthday Party Themes For Girls

    Minnie Mouse
    Princess
    Mermaid
    Frozen (the movie)
    Rainbow
    Cupcake
    Pony/Cowgirl
    Carnival/Circus
    Barbie
    Hello Kitty

2. Select Girls Birthday Party Venue & Date

This has always been the hardest part for me. First you need to decide on your budget as well as how much work you actually want to do yourself. Some of the questions you need to ask yourself when selection a venue are:

    What is my budget?
How much work do I want to do myself?
Do I want the party to be in my house or elsewhere?
Should I host the party inside or outside?
How many kids will be attending?

You can do everything in the comfort of your own home. At home, you don't have to worry about the time limit and you can do pretty much whatever you want. However, you will have to clean, cook and entertain the guests, so be prepared to be exhausted! Parks are great for kids birthday parties as well, but you need to keep the weather in mind. Another option is to rent an in-door venue. Some places will only provide space while you have to bring your own food and entertainment. But you won't have to worry about cleaning before and after. Some kids birthday party venues are all-inclusive meaning they will provide space, food and entertainment.

To find a party venue, you can start by asking friends and family for recommendations and doing a Goggle search. Kids museums, gymnastics gyms, bowling alleys, movie theaters, bounce houses and other kid-friendly places can also host birthday parties.

Last option is to host a party at your home but pay for entertainment. Through Google search and the word of mouth you can find birthday party hosts, magicians or companies that will provide bounce houses, petting zoos and such.

3. Send Birthday Party Invitations

Make sure to send invitations early. Kids and parents seem to have very busy scheduled these days, so it is always a good idea to invite ahead of time. Two great places to order kids birthday party invitations are Etsy and TinyPrints. Etsy is the best place to start if you are looking for unique party invitations that will be a perfect match to your kids birthday party theme. There are plenty of shops that create custom invitations.

Ask guests to arrive 10 - 15 minutes early. Most of them will be a little late, so if you are limited on time, make sure to put that on your invitations. You can also put a request to RSVP as well as any special instructions.

It is a good idea to keep a record of all the addresses so that you can re-use them next year. You can enter them into your phone, planner or an Excel spreadsheet.

4. Pick a Perfect Birthday Girl Outfit

This is my most favorite part of the process! You will need to select a cute birthday girl outfit that coordinates with your birthday party theme. Some of my most favorite brands for cute birthday outfits for girls are Mustard Pie Clothing, Giggle Moon clothing, Ooh La La Couture, Persnickety Clothing clothing and Lemon Loves Lime.

Lemon Loves Lime designs the cutest numbered birthday girl t-shirts that can be coordinated with a Lemon Loves Lime ruffle skort or a cute skirt. Ooh La La couture birthday dress is another cute option for a birthday girl dress.

You can complete your cute birthday girl outfit with a pair of lovely Joyfolie shoes or Livie and Luca shoes.

If you would like to have an absolutely unique, one-of-a-kind outfit for your birthday girl, a good place to look is Etsy. There are hundreds of sellers who can design and create a perfect outfit for your girl. If you are planning to custom-order an outfit, do it a few weeks in advance.

5. Plan Birthday Party Decorations

Based on your girls birthday party theme and place, you will need to plan declarations. If you are hosting the party at a park, you will want minimal decorations. So, all you will really need is balloons and tablecloth that coordinate with your party theme. You can get more creative if you are hosting the party at your house. If you need ideas, Pinterest is a great place to start. Simply search for your party theme to find pictures of thousands of kids birthday parties, cakes, decorations, crafts, food and more.
